FAQs

Where is the school located?
Our Early Childhood Center is located at 1274 Second Avenue at 67th Street. Our elementary school is temporarily located at 127 East 82nd street between Lexington and Park Avenues, while our permanent home at 148 East 74th Street is under renovation.

Is the school intended exclusively for Sephardic children?
Sephardic Academy of Manhattan welcomes families from a range of Jewish backgrounds. Our population includes families from both Ashkenaz and Sephardic traditions, and we aim for all children to develop pride in their Jewish heritage. We teach Sephardic customs while embracing cultural diversity within the classroom environment.

What are the age guidelines for starting school?
Children must be of age by October 15th of their year of entry.

What are the hours of school?
In the Early Childhood, all classes begin at 9 a.m. The Toddlers program (2’s class) ends at 12:30 p.m., the Nursery (3’s class) ends at 2:30 p.m. and the Pre-K (4’s class) ends at 3:00 p.m. On Fridays, school ends at 12:45 pm for Nursery and Pre-K students.
The elementary school day begins at 8:30 a.m. each day. It ends at 3:30 p.m. Monday-Thursday and at 1:30 p.m. on Fridays.

Do you offer after-school activities?
Yes. After-school activities are offered Monday-Thursday for an additional fee. Parents can select from a range of classes that change each semester.

Do you provide snack and lunch?
Yes. We offer children nutritious snacks such as fruits, vegetables and whole grains. We provide a child-friendly and nutritious hot lunch from Sova caterers at no additional fee. On Fridays, we serve pizza from Saba’s.

How much is tuition?
Tuition for the 2019-20 school year is as follows:
Toddlers (2’s) 2 day program: $11,900/ 3 day program: $16,370/ 5 day program: $24,800
Nursery (3’s) $28,900
Pre-K (4’s) $31,000
Elementary $33,500

Do you offer financial aid?
Yes, we strive to make the SAM educational experience accessible through a needs based financial aid process. Together with community members, we have established a financial subsidy fund. This fund is expected to provide partial financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. Applications can be submitted through FACTS and must be received by January 1. Inquiries into this program are strictly confidential. Sephardic Academy of Manhattan has a need-blind admissions policy.

What grades do you serve?
We currently serve children in Early Childhood (ages 2 through 5) and Elementary School. For the 2018-2019 school year we have children in Kindergarten and 1st Grade. For the 2019-2020 school year, we will also have students in 2nd grade. The Elementary School will add one grade per year until we reach 8th grade.
